An Open Water Diver is the first level of certification in the recreational scuba diving system. It allows you to dive independently with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters (60 feet) in open water, under the supervision of a dive professional.
To become an Open Water Diver, you must complete a scuba diving course that covers the basic principles of scuba diving, equipment use, and safe diving practices. You will also need to complete a series of confined water dives (usually in a swimming pool) to practice and demonstrate your skills, as well as a minimum of four open water dives to apply those skills in a real-world diving environment.
The Open Water Diver course typically takes 3-4 days to complete and is offered by various scuba diving organizations, such as PADI, SSI, and NAUI. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certification card that is recognized worldwide. This card allows you to continue your scuba diving education and explore the underwater world with confidence.
